Code meets creativity at Canva’s first community event for developers.

BACKGROUND

Canva Extend was our first-ever community event for developers. We were challenged to build a design system that catered to this new audience, one that looked professional and approachable but still distinctly Canva.

IDEA

Inspired by programming language, grids, monospaced typefaces, wireframes, terminal, and monochromatic screens, Canva Extend's brand identity plays in a space already familiar to developers.

To strike a balance, we brought in impactful portraits that added a human touch to the sleek world of tech.

FONT: JetBrains Mono. A typeface designed for coding, praised for its ease of readability.

The indents created where curves connect to the stem are nice little nod to Canva Sans.

The underscore at the

end of the wordmark signifies the desire to complete a command.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Our portraits captured real Canva developers to authentically represent the community and celebrate its diversity.

DESIGNED FOR DEVS

From digital invites and presentations to on-site event styling and swag, we stayed true to bringing a tech-inspired world to life. This created a cohesive, familiar space that beautifully showcased the unique landscape that developers inhabit.
